How to Stay Consistent With LinkedIn Activity
Maintaining a consistent presence on LinkedIn is often easier said than done.
Many clients express that despite understanding the importance of regular activity on the platform, consistency remains one of their greatest challenges.
Whether it’s due to time constraints, lack of content, or simply forgetting to engage regularly, the struggle is real and widely felt.
But here’s the good news - it’s possible to build a consistent digital sales strategy.
From leveraging themed days to block scheduling and smart content repurposing, there are a variety of tactics that cater to different needs and schedules.
Each strategy is designed to help you establish and sustain a visible and influential presence online, turning what often feels like a chore into a rewarding part of your professional routine.
In this week’s Sell with Social, we’ll explore how you can become more consistent with your LinkedIn activity.
Why Consistency is Key on LinkedIn
Achieving tangible results on LinkedIn doesn’t happen overnight.
Just as with any strategy aimed at building a robust digital presence and establishing thought leadership, success on this platform is a long-term endeavor. To truly make an impact, consistency is not just beneficial; it’s essential.
Here are a few reasons why consistency is key:
Long-Term Strategy for Lasting Impact
LinkedIn, by design, rewards consistent engagement.
Regular posts, interactions, and content sharing contribute to an algorithm that favors active users, making your profile more visible to your network and beyond.
But the benefits of such consistency go deeper than algorithmic advantages. By regularly sharing insights, updates, and professional milestones, you are continuously nurturing your network, reminding peers and potential clients of your expertise and active participation in your industry.
The 1% Rule
An often-overlooked statistic is that only about 1% of LinkedIn’s 800 million users actively create content each week.
This presents a unique opportunity: by committing to consistent content creation, you automatically elevate yourself to the top tier of users.
This top 1% of users often sees exponentially greater engagement and opportunities, simply because they are more visible and more top-of-mind than their peers.
Compound Benefits of Regular Posting
Consistency on LinkedIn can be compared to compound interest in finance—the more regularly you invest in creating and sharing content, the greater the returns over time.
Each post builds on the last, expanding your reach and enhancing your reputation incrementally. This gradual build-up means that your efforts today lay the foundation for tomorrow’s opportunities, creating a flywheel effect of professional growth and opportunity generation.
By adhering to a consistent posting schedule, you ensure that your voice is heard and your profile remains active, keeping you relevant and in sight of important connections.
It’s not just about being seen—it’s about being remembered and respected as a leader and expert in your field.
5 Effective Strategies for Staying Consistent
I know what you’re thinking… You already know it’s important to stay consistent. But how do you actually do it?
From coaching hundreds of people over the years, I can confidently say that there is no silver bullet for consistency that works for everyone. We all work differently and have different goals for our digital strategy.
However, even though there is no universal “hack,” we’ve seen a few strategies that consistently deliver consistently for those we work with.
Here are five strategies you can use:
1. Start Small
Beginning with small, manageable goals is essential when trying to build a consistent routine on LinkedIn.
Instead of overwhelming yourself with the need to post daily, start by committing to one thoughtful post per week. This allows you to focus on quality over quantity, gradually increasing your activity as you grow more comfortable and efficient in content creation.
2. Themed Days
One of my favorite strategies is using themed days to organize your content creation process and provide your audience with a predictable and engaging routine. We actively teach this tactic and have implemented it in our social selling planner.
By assigning specific themes to each day, you create a framework that guides your content planning, making it easier to generate ideas and prepare posts in advance. This method ensures a balanced variety of content, covering different aspects of your professional expertise and interests.
3. Block off Time
Regularity in posting requires treating content creation and engagement as critical tasks in your schedule.
By blocking off specific times each week dedicated solely to LinkedIn, you ensure these activities are not overlooked. This structured approach helps you develop discipline, turning LinkedIn engagement into a routine part of your professional life, similar to checking emails or attending meetings.
4. Learning Out Loud
Sharing your learning experiences publicly does more than just help others; it also cements your own understanding and establishes your expertise.
This strategy involves openly discussing the new skills, insights, and knowledge you’ve acquired through your professional activities or meetings, turning each LinkedIn post into a mini-case study or a lesson.
5. Have Accountability
Accountability mechanisms significantly enhance your commitment to maintaining a presence on LinkedIn.
By partnering with someone else, or joining a community of like-minded professionals, you leverage collective motivation and support to keep you active and engaged. This external commitment can be particularly motivating, as it adds a layer of responsibility and expectation to your LinkedIn activities.
Final Thoughts
As we've discussed several strategies to maintain consistency on LinkedIn, it’s vital to evaluate which ones best suit your specific needs. From starting small and organizing themed days to carving out dedicated time, sharing your learning journey, and leveraging accountability, each strategy offers a unique way to enhance your presence on this critical platform.
However, the effectiveness of these tactics hinges on having a clear "Why." Understanding the purpose behind your LinkedIn activities—whether it’s to build your brand, establish thought leadership, or connect with peers—will anchor and motivate you through challenges.
Reflect on these strategies and think about how they align with your professional goals.
By integrating these tactics with a clear purpose, maintaining consistency on LinkedIn can transform from a daunting task into a powerful component of your professional development.
